Beaugency is a charming town located in the Loiret department, in the heart of the Centre-Val de Loire region, on the right bank of the Loire. It seduces with its rich heritage, its peaceful atmosphere and its remarkable history.

A heritage steeped in history

The town is home to many emblematic monuments such as the Château de Beaugency, a former medieval fortress converted into a Renaissance residence, the Tour César, a vestige from the 11th century, and the Notre-Dame abbey which bears witness to Romanesque art in the Loire Valley. You can also admire the famous Beaugency bridge, a medieval structure with numerous arches which majestically crosses the Loire and connects the town to the opposite bank.

City of Joan of Arc and significant events

Beaugency played an important historical role during the Hundred Years' War, notably in 1429 when Joan of Arc passed through to liberate the city from the English. It was also here that the Council of Beaugency took place in 1152, a decisive moment in French royal history with the annulment of the marriage between Louis VII and Eleanor of Aquitaine.
